ASSIGNMENT-Krishna and Guntur District-Land covered by Krishna Barrage Scheme-sale in open auction-Orders-Issued.

It has been suggested at the first meeting of the Social Committee for Development of ayacut under the Major and Medium Irrigation Scheme held on 16.8.1960, that the Government lands under the Krishna Barrage Scheme in Krishna and Guntur districts should not be assigned under the normal assignment rules but auctioned as the Government would suffer loss if these valuable lands are given on a nominal price. 2. After careful consideration, the Government now direct that the Government waste lands covered by the Krishna Barrage Scheme be sold in open auction instead of assignment under the normal rules. They further direct that out of the sale process of these lands, a sum of Rupees One crore be set aside for the welfare of Harijans, particularly to settle poor and landless Harijans who have been assigned lands and enable them to take up cultivation successfully and for provision of house-sites. 3. The Board of Revenue is requested to issue further instructions in the matter to the concerned Collectors and send a copy thereof to the Government.
