ASSIGNMENT – Land – Scheduled Areas in the State – Prohibition of assignment of Govt. lands to non-Tribals – Orders – Issued.

The Government have reviewed the policy governing the assignment of Government lands in the Scheduled Areas of the State in favour of non-Tribals. With a view to safeguarding and promoting the interests of the Scheduled Tribes in the Scheduled Areas, the Government direct that the following policy be followed in modification of the orders in force read above. (i) All assignments of Government lands in the Scheduled Areas in favour of non-tribals, shall be prohibited with immediate effect; (ii) In the case of Government lands in the scheduled Areas already encroached upon by non-tribals, the following action shall be taken:- (a) Person other than landless poor shall be straightway evicted from the lands occupied by them; (b) Landless-poor persons shall not be evicted from the lands under their occupation upto a maximum extent of 2 ½ acres we, 5 acres dry which limits shall apply inclusive of the dry lands if any, already owned by the encroachers unless and until such lands are needed for assignment to Tribals; and (c) No fresh encroachments of Government lands by non-Tribals shall be allowed and prompt measures shall be taken to evict any such encroachments. 2. The Director of Tribal Welfare/Board of Revenue is informed that the report called for in Memo.No.1582/B/68-2 Revenue dated 14-8-1968 and M.No. 1582-B/68-5, dated 11-11-1968 need not be sent in view of the above orders.
